sawdust
definition: noun - powdery particles of wood produced by sawing.
When I'm working on projects, sometimes
I build or create things to see if I understand the
problems or issues. For that reason, a lot of it is
temporary, has no particular purpose, but might be
amusing or educational. That's what this site is all
about.
This site's content includes topics on hardware, sensors,
microcontrollers, software, firmware, techniques I've
used or discovered. It's really a stash for things I'm
learning and want to share or just keep around for
reference.
It covers AVR, SAM7, and Propeller microcontrollers, GPS,
power experiments, serial data communications, LogicPort,
LANtronix, and RF communications including XBee.
I do middleware software development, web development,
Flash GUI development, embedded development, and open
source development professionally. In my career I've been
with companies such as Macromedia (bought by Adobe),
3Com, OpenLogic, Lotus/IBM. Current clients include
the IEEE Standards Association
(high availability
failover and IDS architectures), the Air Force, and
Army (vehicle location systems.) In the last several
years I was involved in a large AVL (automated
vehicle location) system for the emergency responders
of Colorado Springs. For fun I originated the
OSCirrus open source project for reading wind
speed and direction using an AVR ATMega128 and I
originated the Ruby::XBee
open source project.
My workbench on a
messier day. The oscilloscope on the floor under my desk
is one I bought with money my grandfather gave me for
graduation....25+ years later, it's still going strong.
