Stepper Motor Breakout Board

This little stepper motor breakout board makes it easy to learn how to drive stepper motors from a microcontroller. Steppers are commonly used in robotics and other control applications for precise positioning.

A high-quality NMB brand stepper motor is mounted directly on the breakout board and comes preassembled.

While the board can work directly with any 5V microcontroller, it's best when used with the ET-AVR development board and ET-AVR Stamp module. If using a 3.3V microcontroller, you'll need to provide voltage level conversion for the input signals on this board. The stepper breakout board will fit directly on the standoffs supplied on the ET-AVR development board which makes it very convenient to wire it up and cart around for a project.

The stepper breakout board has a series of drive transistors that makes it easy to drive the stepper phases directly from a microcontroller at TTL voltage levels. The motor is a unipolar stepper. The input signals, INA, INB, INC, IND may be connected to with male or female connectors. Also, an LED on the board will light indicating each phase activation.

To step the motor, program your microcontroller to send a logic 1 pulse on each of the 4 input pins in succession. Example code is available on links below.

Finally, the stepper motor has a dial-like visual indicator on the shaft which helps you see what position it's in. The motor has 18 degree incremental steps.

ET-AVR development board and ET-AVR Stamp module are sold separately. See related products below.
