These RJ45 PCB sockets are incredibly handy for all kinds of interconnecting tasks. We've used these extensively in the speed climbing timing system to connect hand sensors, foot sensors, and timing displays together.
What's nice about using RJ45 for connecting boards and systems together is the cabling is easy to find (typical home improvement stores carry CAT5 or CAT6 jacks, cables, crimp tools.) The connections are secure and reliable. Finally, there are a myriad of breakout board types that these jacks can easily be soldered to so you can quickly integrate with a CAT5 or CAT6 cable.
